Tub Rooms

At this Provincially run long-term Healthcare facility, Urban Spaces Design was asked to specify all finishes for the renovation, working with architect Patrick Yu of Bau Studio.  These images show pieces from each of the three tub and shower rooms that were done. It was important to tie in the colours from the previously done renovations and to make these rooms not only safe to use for residents and staff, but also ones that felt great to be in. Beautiful commercial-grade vinyl murals were sealed under safety glass, and pristine white wet walls that are impact-resistant, grout-free, and easy to clean were used throughout. As always, in healthcare, ‘infection control’ plays a key factor in the choice of finishes.  Finishes that are easy to clean with hospital-grade cleaning chemicals and no porous materials that would invite moisture and molds would be examples of those finishes.  The beautiful blue floor is an epoxy coating that was poured over the badly worn existing epoxy flooring, with just the right amount of anti-slip finish.  The safety, usability and accessibility of hospital bathing rooms are important requirements for both residents and their care assistants.
